I didn’t think it would happen to me. I went to check on my fish tank only to find the floor was soaked. Water was dripping everywhere, the floor was soaked. The extension cord was filled with water, and everything that was plugged in too, but the breaker flipped so no fires or anything like that. But also water was just pouring out of the extension cord so I doubt that could’ve happened. It seems like there was maybe a small crack or maybe a seal failed, but i couldn’t find where it was coming from. So I don’t know. But luckily the water hadn’t spread out too far in the room.

Got all of my fish out. The hardest part was just trying to catch them as the water was still leaking. Though trying to catch Kuhli loaches was so so hard. They were jumping up out of the water to avoid the net. And my bristlenose plecos were just darting all about. Luckily I only had pairs of some fish, so it was easy to make sure I got them all out.

On a fun note, I did find out that at some point my Kuhli loaches had babies. I even managed to catch the little 3/4in baby bristlenose plecos out. Now they’re all setup in this plastic tub until I can get the new tank and stand setup, after the carpet all dries. Which it’ll probably be like 3 or so days until then. I’m going to skip out on feeding to make sure the ammonia levels stay low, also working on getting a small heater temporarily setup as the ones I have are way to big.

My room is full of so much stuff, I think most things are undamaged. But now there’s lots of cleaning to be done. it’s all still so devastating, I’m just so glad my fish are okay. Everything else is incidental. it definitely turned out a lot better than it could have, but i just barely hit the one year mark of it in October.

Hopefully I saved enough to not have to restart cycling or have it all crash. The filters going on the tub they’re all in, and I saved a few gallons of water as well as a bunch of sand. Should I also keep the decor that was inside wet? Any tips or advice getting through this?

By any chance, when you found the tank, was the water level around the height of the filterxs intake? I’m wondering if your filter might have leaked / somehow overflowed.

I’m so sorry. Had this happen once 37 yrs ago. Turned me off the hobby until just 3 months ago

Once you break the tank down. Find a place outside and fill it up agian to test or just get a new tank.
