Hi guys, I’m planning to get a 29-gallon tank and place it on this piece of furniture, centered in the empty space.
However, I’m afraid it might warp the wood or, worse, break it.
It’s basic IKEA furniture, not reinforced or anything.
What would you do ?
Thanks!

Nope. Get a real aquarium stand.
*Maybeeeeee* with another piece of wood underneath to spread the load, but really I’d only put a glass box full of 120L of water on something that had *aquarium* in the title 💧
I put a 110L tank on an Ikea Malm that my dad but some wood around (because I was scared it would break).
Was no problem at all for the maybe 6 months I had that tank (upgraded recently).
Do with that information what you will. I’m not saying it will 100% work but for me it did. However, I’m from europe and the Malm is about 8 years old, back when they made the furniture a little more sturdy.
Funny things likely built better than most new aquarium stands out there. A 29 gallon? That’s the most I’d put on it, but I have a similar “actual fish tank stand” with a 55gal on it. I only like my 55gal on it, and will be building a wooden one soon, but it’s been on the stand I currently have for two years. Yours should be fine. Do you know, will the whole tank fit just the middle part? Or will it hang to the outside ends as well?
Not if you liked it…
One single drip down the front or back of the tank, one little slip with a bucket and that countertop will swell in an ugly way and never go back to how it was.
No, buy a real stand.
Nope. Buy a real stand and put it somewhere that’s not being blasted by sunlight
If you straddle the uprights where the two pieces come together, maybe. It would probably hold it if it was centered, but over time the static weight will bow the top and then the drawers will no longer open or close correctly and will be crooked. Then there’s the issue of constant spills, drips, and splashes that will get to the particle board underneath and cause it to swell and pop the laminate off. It takes almost no water to accomplish this, so it will happen.
It’s one of those things if you question it probably not
