Picture 1: The day that I got him
Picture 2: How he looks today, about 2 months later

Backstory: As you can see I got this guy from a fish store in a terrible state. I've nurtured him a lot and his colors have dramatically started popping and his fins have healed and grown a lot since then. Body coloration seems slow to come in, but his head looks a lot healthier to me now.

I'm worried because of the curls on his fins and the somewhat golden scales on his head. Should I be worried about fin rot and/or velvet? I've looked at dozens of pictures of bettas but mine seems quite unique in many ways.

Tank: 8 gallons long planted (hygrophila corymbosa "Thailand", limnophila, crypt, salvinia and some mosses) blackwater tank
pH: 7.5
Nitrates and nitrite: 0
Temp: 27
