Not too long ago I posted here asking for help with some sick otocinclus (my most recent post before this one) and after a ton of help and research I finally cured them!
I’m not sure if anyone who helped me will see this, but wanted to update anyway in case anyone’s fish end up with the same thing because google seems to have no answers
I still have no idea what the diagnosis is, it started out as tiny yellow specks on the fins and head, but it soon became irregular yellow blobs on the skins surface. The blobs would shift and move and combine throughout the day, so I’m thinking a weird type of fungus? I’ve added two photos about 4 days apart to show how it changed
What worked was daily water changes and gravel vacuuming, and a combination of Pimafix, malachite green (in the form of ich treatment, namely Wunder White Spot), and StressGuard. I took a risk and decided my own doses because these fish are ridiculously sensitive
It’s a 125 litre tank, so I used 1ml of malachite green (ich medication) every second day, 5mls of Pimafix twice a day (second dose directly after a daily water change), and 10mls of StressGuard every morning.
It took about a week to get rid of every last spot, and I’m going to keep up treatment, minus the ich meds, for another week just to make sure it’s gone for good
I also decided against using my hospital tank because it stressed my oto’s out too much, and because I wanted to treat the whole tank as well, in case it could live without a host for longer than I the treatment took
Thanks again to everyone who gave me advice! I hope this helps someone in future, and maybe someone can find what a diagnosis could be!
