The spot treating did wonders on some plants but not others. A lot of my plants have really stuck on algae and I was dousing the leaves, refilling the syringe multiple times thinking I just needed to use more.

Some people mentioned that peroxide can be harmful to fish and now I know. Three of my four otos were dead a few hours later and the last one is missing (it could have been missing prior to this, I've not been keeping very close watch on my tank for a while) They are the only fish that seem to have been affected, most likely from feeding directly on the surfaces that I treated with peroxide. I don't know if I should rip up my scape to look for the missing fish or to let it go since I've had fish disappear before and never found them, only to have no impact on my tank's parameters. (20 gallon, decently planted with quite enough filtration to handle a bioload larger than what is stocked). The only other fish in there are blue eye forktails (pseudomogil furcatus)

I've included pictures of my tank, several plants with algae I can't get off, and some fish still in the tank. All advice is appreciated.

I had this recently too, but it’s exactly why I chose not to use peroxide. Instead I add a capful of Seachem Flourish Excel every other day which seemed to keep it at bay. You don’t need to fish out the Oto really they are tiny.

The algae is not the problem really, the algae is a response to a problem. Something else is out of whack and your plants can’t use enough of the nutrients so algae uses them. The tricky part is working out what’s up. Could be too much light, not enough co2, lack of micro, not enough macro, etc.

Are you adding nutrients? Do you have CO2? What’s your lights schedule and brightness? What are your nitrates at?

And if you haven’t already, get some amanos.

  2. 70% water change and API stress coat. Pause filtration/aeration for a few hours. Algae is a sign of a healthy tank and there are plenty of critters that will help with it. Your tank is lovely. Have you considered going full walstad method? I haven’t…yet but I’ve been watching Father Fish and it’s tempting me haha
