So this is my betta fish Ophelia, who I got from Tucky’s Bettas about a month ago. She had been doing great up until Monday this week (2 days ago). I fed her 2 mysis shrimp and a brine shrimp (frozen thawed in tank water) for breakfast. She was very excited about her food (per usual) and ate her meal quite quickly. A little while after breakfast I noticed that she was no longer acting her very curious self. I have been fasting her since Monday, as I think she is definitely a bit heavier than she was when I got her (pictures attached). I’ve been wracking my brain to try to figure out what may be wrong. Today she does seem to be requiring a bit of extra effort in getting to the top of her tank, but does not seem to be pineconing, losing color, nor are her fins clamped to her body. My only thought is potentially swim bladder issues due to her weight, potentially over feeding, and possibly her swallowing air when being fed on Monday, but if anyone has any other ideas or suggestions I would love to hear them. She’s currently in a partially planted 10 gallon tank (live and silk plants), her filter has a modified spout to slow the flow in her tank, she has a heater and her tank stays between 78 and 80 degrees depending on the weather outside. Her water parameters (tested Monday) are 0ppm ammonia and nitrite, less than 5 nitrate, and a ph of 7.6. I cycled my tank for over a month prior to getting her (testing using the api freshwater master kit) and the only tank-mate she has is a nerite snail.

  1. Yeah, the overfeeding checks out, maybe she clogged the intestinal system, not sure though maybe try r/BettaClinic for better help
