Hello all – need some advise. Started cycling this tank about 3 weeks ago. Added shrimp 3 days ago. Started the tank with a few dead rotalla leaves, pre cycled media, and a single pellet of shrimp food. Water testing pointed to it being cycled after about two weeks. Now yesterday I got a crazy algae bloom. Water is crystal clear, but I have algae on the walls and hair algae everywhere.
Any recommendations on getting rid of it? Light isn’t a smart light, just has a timer that starts it at the same time every day, so running the light less isn’t an easy solution.
As far as water, I started it with tap water/ prime, and have been doing 25% water changes regularly and diluting with distilled water to hopefully reduce the food for the algae. Nitrates and nitrites are both at 0. I’ve never had this problem before. Any advice ?

I would get a better light where you can adjust how much light you’re giving the tank. If you don’t want to invest in a different light, move your light further away from your tank. Is your tank sitting in direct sunlight at all?
Physically cleaning the tank is the best way to get rid of the algae.
