I have this blue German ram, the female of a m/f pair. The pair had ich, and I treated with copper and metroplex, added aquarium salt and raised the temperature of the tank by a couple degrees over the course of a day or two to help shorten the ich cycle. No other fish in my tank have showed signs of ich. The male had all his white ich spots go away within the week, and the female had just a small snot or two left. A few days after that, the male went from perfectly fine and swimming and eating and interacting with the other fish, to just suddenly start gasping and floating vertically. A couple hours later he died.

Around the same time they started losing the white ich spots, the female’s left eye started getting bulgy. Besides her eye, she’s been seemingly fine. Swimming normally, eating, and interacting with the other fish.

Her eye has now gotten pretty gigantic, so I moved her to a quarantine tank with an established bacteria filter and a 50% water change to redose her with metroplex, copper and aquarium salt. What else can I do for her? This pair was my favorite and I’m so sad I lost one already. Is this a lost cause that I should euthanize or can I save her?
I haven’t ever had much luck in bringing dumpy or sick fish back to health.

Looks like pop eye. It’s when liquid breaches into the eye and stretches it from the inside. It can occur for many reasons, including infection and stress. It could be related to the ich, especially as post-treatment fish are often susceptible to injury and disease due to the burrows and weakened immune system left by the ich. There is unfortunately very little you can do, it will either go away or it won’t. Quarantine with aquarium salt and do daily water changes + conditioner to ensure the most sterile water quality. Let it run its course, it may heal and eventually go away, or it may leave the fish blind in the eye. In most cases it won’t cause death unless it gets infected. Best of luck to the little guy
