Does anyone have any insight into newt senses and how they hunt? They act quite dopey when fed and appear as if they can’t see the food but definitely smell it

Their eyesight is poor and mainly they react to light and movement. I used to keep axolotl and when I fed them frozen food, I would set it in a feeding dish so they could easily find it and eat without swallowing a bunch of substrate. I preferred feeding nightcrawlers and blackworms as the movement was very stimulating and I didn’t have to worry about them wasting it.
