Ideal would be 20g Long. Best minimum 10g Long. People who call them puddle fish really don’t understand how much water is in a puddle let alone a rice paddy. 😆💕

10-15 gallons should be minimum for plakats I believe they are called? Short finned ones. I think 5 is ok for exceptionally long finned males but if you can go bigger with a lower water level then that’s even better

I have three bettas each in their own six-gallon long.
The boy at the top spends 95% in his jar “penthouse.” He has a nerite buddy.
The girl in the middle spends about 75% of the time in her almond leaf hammock. She has a nerite buddy.
The boy at the bottom spends 75% of the time lounging in the hornwort. He had a lot of bladder snails, so he has a few assassin buddies.
Prior to this setup, I had the top boy in a traditional 5 gallon starter tank (felt cramped). I had the girl in a 10gallon rimless traditional shape (it was way too big for her IMO). I wanted a third betta, so I went with 6gal long bookshelf tanks on a heavy duty bookshelf.
