We just got our daughter a betta (meet Fin!) and I’m unsure about feeding. Everything I’m reading (including here) seems to be conflicting to some degree. We’re feeding with Betta Pro Shrimp Patties, and their directions say to feed 1-3 times a day but only what the fish can eat in 3 min. This seems pretty excessive, esp bc this guy can eat! I could keep dropping pellets the entire 3min and he wouldn’t even slow down.
I’m worried about bloating so I’m planning on a fast day, but how often/how much should we be feeding? We’re currently giving 5-7 pellets or so twice a day (morning and evening), but he seems to still be searching for food quite aggressively after he’s done.
Just want to make sure we’re doing what we need to be. Thx

Bettas are always hungry
This is unrelated but where did you get Fin? he looks stunning!
5-7 twice a day is a lot. Bettas should be eating 1-2 times a day. This will determine how much you give them. I give my betta 5-6 pellets a day. You can also break this up into 3-4 pellets twice a day. One day a week of fasting is perfectly fine and recommended (I do the same). If you notice boating or too much weight gain, adjust amount and fast as necessary.
Remember if feeding frozen blood worms or frozen live foods, to limit these to once MAYBE twice a week as a snack/treat, not as a regular diet. As like any other animal, too many treats isn’t healthy. Hope Fin enjoys his new home:)
