Hi everyone, this is Prince! As you can see in the video Prince has a tumour that I believe is a pigment cell tumour. It started as a white spec on his fin in August and the white spec got bigger and bigger until early October when I started seeing a raising lump. Over the past 6 weeks or so it’s grown quite rapidly but I think (I’m hoping) it’s starting to slow now. There hasn’t been any change in his behaviour other than him resting a bit more frequently but he’s still very active despite this.

I’ve actually not had experience with tumours in bettas before so was hoping others could share any experiences / advice?
These are some questions I have:

Did the tumour growth stop or slow down on your betta?

Did you make any changes in care?

How long did your betta live with tumours?

Any advice would be much appreciated please 🙂

  1. My samurai developed a tumor. It got progressively bigger for about a year and I think it’s what ultimately killed him. He didn’t suffer or show symptoms beforehand. I just found him dead one day sadly. I’d had him for 4 years and it didn’t appear to affect his quality of life.

There’s really not much you can do 🙁 I would recommend keeping water quality pristine since his immune system might be compromised by the tumor.

I am not an expert on the subject, I have never had any tumors in my bettas, but I recommend adding banana leaves, they are used to prevent and cure fish diseases, be careful as it will lower the pH.

Good luck and I hope it turns out well
