hey guys! 24 hours since my last post of my fish being seemingly perfectly healthy. before i took a shower i saw that he was kinda doing some weird stuff so i took pictures and tried looking it up to see what could be wrong. when i came back from my shower i found he had passed away while swimming out of his little moss covered hiding spot. i’m mad and confused and i feel like im to blame for this does anyone have any insights? he was home for just 6 days before passing. the ghost shrimp in the tank are fine so im wondering if maybe it was a bacterial disease or pre-existing problems from poor breeding? i bought him at petco.

I’m so sorry, OP.  Honestly it could have been a pre-existing health condition given the parameters seem good and the other fish are doing well.  Please be gentle with yourself.

  2. Had a very similar thing happen with a betta in a very well setup tank. Unfortunately, when you get them, aside from surface level checks there’s no way of knowing for sure who will stay healthy for a handful of years and who won’t make it a week. If the shrimp are all acting totally normal I really just think it was bad luck 💔 just the hard part about bettas

I am so sorry for your loss 🙁 It is possibly genetics or breeding issues.

Not sure of the store told you but you have 14 days from purchase for them to replace your fish – FYI.
