Based on your knowledge it’s a really bad idea for you to have that fish. Hope you’re aware it can grow to 3-4 ft.

Looks like it could be its skin pattern. Do you have a plan for when that fish gets huge?

These fish shouldn’t even be sold in the hobby because of the amount of people who buy them not knowing they’ll need a 100g tank at least within a year

It’s likely scars on the cornea or cataracts. Good luck with that fish.

I’m sorry but that is not an appropriate fish for a home aquarium setup. They grow much too large to be kept anywhere but a pond and even then it would have to be a very big pond.
I’m not blaming you OP, that fish should not be sold as a pet period.
As sad as it is I would strongly advise you to return the fish or surrender it to someone capable of meeting its needs.
Edit: if you want catfish Corydoras are THE beginner friendly option.
For something a little bigger Raphael catfish are also easy to care for and they croak when upset which is very cute.

Hope it doesn’t have any tankmates. It won’t in a moment if it does.

No need to worry, this tank the fish is in is just temporary

Op hope you are aware that fish grows 3 to 5 feet… and will need 1000gallons plus. Ideally 100gal in its first year.
Good luck

Like many people have said you should not own this fish. It requires a massive tank for multiple reasons they get massive 4ft can weight 125lbs and if spooked can 100% break any glass aquarium. They’re very active fish and only sit still when stressed or in too small a tank.
Genuinely recommend a minimum of 3000 gallons for these guys and as pet owners we should strive for thriving conditions and not just making sure it survives. Pond is 100% recommend. If you can’t afford to build a pond. Get an out a ground pool and put it in your basement.
On top of that these fish need crazy filtration if a goldfish were the size of these catfish the catfish would have a bigger bioload and that’s saying something considering goldfish have some of the highest bioload in the hobby.
If you can’t provide that I would recommend returning it.

lol everyone else has already mentioned the size so I’ll just say HAHAHA he looks so silly I love him 😂 oh bless his derpy heart
I agree with another commenter here- it looks like a skin pattern. I wonder if it’ll change as he grows!
