I got my baby betta in April and she was about 2 months. In October I moved her out of her 10 gallon into a 29 gallon and got a baby male for the 10 gallon. I feel like my female is HUGE. She’s about 2 and a half inches not including her tail. I’m not sure if she just looks huge now that I have the baby boy or if she actually is just massive. Before I added her to the 29 gallon she was just over 2 inches. So she’s grown almost a half inch in the big tank.
I don’t have any recent photos of her so the photo is her when she was still little just under 2 inches

No, it’s a common myth that fish only grow as big as their tank allows. Bettas are decent sized fish, that’s why they need a bigger tank than most beginners think. Most you see in store are young, so you get this crazy comparison when you’ve had one for a long time and then get a new one. Females especially I feel get very stocky. Your girl is perfectly normal, congrats on keeping her healthy!
No, but bigger tank = thriving fish 🙂
