I had a ten gallon ready for a betta and I bought this guy last night who looked like he could really use some help. From what I saw he looks more bloated (fat) not tumor like. (appears same on both sides) I figured the mixture of being bloated with long fins, cramped in a cup for who knows how long really wore down on him.

Tank is fully cycled and has been for months, heated and filtered. Parameters are all fine. I dosed with tannins and am currently as I write this giving him a salt bath. (picture)

I have not fed him and plan to fast him for about 5 more days, roughly a week in total. He seems very curious and does swim around some, but it’s clear it’s very hard on him. Any other advice besides tannins, salt baths, stress coat and fasting?

Awww poor cutie- he’s got such a nice blue ombré coloring. Your care plan sounds great! It looks like he probably has a little handicap getting around right now- maybe some resting spots near the surface could be beneficial until he’s back to “fighting weight” (ha)

Plan sounds solid. He’s beautiful and I really hope it starts to help. I can’t wait for an update.

  3. I’ve found after fasting if he’s still bloated, daphnia and brine shrimp can help as well.
