I never name fish tbh

My mollies all had Spanish names (which was started by my sister). Muy, Guapo, Pepita, Chiquita, etc.
My corydora all had mythology names. Sisyphus, Dionysus, Icarus, Enkidu, etc. (except Cardamom)
My snails all had old lady/man names. Gladys, Florence, Eustace, etc.
It started as an accident, but having themes is actually kind of fun lol!

For me, it’s simply a matter of my various pop culture knowledge and how it can possibly relate to my wet pets. Or something completely random yet somehow surprisingly fitting I instantly think of off the top of my head.
I named my banjo catfish, Whiskey since I listened to Wine Into Whiskey by Tucker Wetmore. Also, a banjo catfish sounds like the exact species of fish I imagine a country person/cowboy would keep.
Meanwhile, I named my first mystery snail, Gary. Because SpongeBob. That’s it.

I have never named fish as an adult. For one thing, I usually have large schools and they all look pretty much the same.

Either by appearance or by their little quirks.

Personally I only name fish if they have a lot of personality it they are common like I had a angle fish nippie who’s was a cunt couldn’t but him with anything but I always name a fish if consider “special” like my ghost knife fish is Samuel Jackson or my tinfoil bard his name is chance I got him by pure chance ( hence his name lmao) but I wouldn’t name fish that are short lived it’s just more heartbreak ill probably cry when my ghost knife passes love that fish
This is Admiral.. Named after Red Lobsters dish called the Admirals Feast. I like to name them fun things and talk to em. I like fun names that make someone smile. But they just come to me. Despite me joking about it, he’s still part of the fam and I try to take the best care of him ☺️

I named my fish based on their attributes or their personalities. Im not always great at naming so my boyfriend helps.
My favorites were Captain Kinkler (kink in his spine) and Lieutenant Side Eye (missing an eye).

my first like five bettas were named after fascist dictators
then I just started taking the messed ones from work that we couldn’t sell, so I had boys like Bendy Spine and Tumor Fish
I never name any of my community fish because my memory is dogshit.
I’ll name crayfish or rock shrimp or snails sometimes but they’re boring names like Claws or Gary

I just kinda pick one I feel fits and if it sticks they are now named that, if not I try a new name that I feel fits.
I have:
3 Bettas – Sky, Calypso and Carcharidon
4 Cory catfish – 2 albino – Peak and Boo, 2 Copper – Copper and Cooper
5 Male Guppies – Azure, Lemons, Hallows, Tigger and Tux
1 Female Bristlenose – Cerberus
1 Clown Pleco – Loa
The rest are unarmed since I can’t differentiate between them.
4 Khulis Loaches, 4 Rummy noses, 4 Black Tetras and 4 Otocinclus
