Golden white cloud mountain minnows! Ferocious eaters these guys are fun to watch during feeding, I have 3 notorious females that always overeat.
The coolest thing about them is the male sparring, they are very territorial and will defend the most random things. They don’t attack like most territorial fish, instead will square off and flare their fins at each other in a dance battle. They will however chase off smaller fish, especially during feeding.
The colours are stunning! Especially the golden variety, the males getting extra red with some beautiful markings.
They are always interested in what you’re doing, incessantly following me around the tank. They are also always in my grill when I’m doing tank maintenance. Either trying to get cut in half by scissors or getting sucked up the gravel vacuum.
White Cloud Mountain minnows thrive in freshwater with a temperature range of 14-22 C, a pH of 6.0-8.5, and a hardness of 10-15 dKH. And don’t get me started on how resilient they are! They have gone through a whole 1h move and been with me for over 4 years.
They also love a water treadmill from my HOB filter, often switching in and out of the high flow areas.
Definitely a fish I recommend, beginner friendly! Beware of smaller fish as they can get pretty territorial.
