Hi! I’ve tried everything it seems with my Paulie. Any time I feed him…he’ll be bloated by the end of the day. And it doesn’t matter the amount. I’ll give him just three little strips of bio gold and his belly will still be slim. But BOOM by 6 PM he’s bloated.
This is him now. I fed him 5 bio gold this morning and his belly was just a lil plump after. Looked good. And now he’s laying on the surface and can barely swim.
I’ve been feeding him every two days with bigger meals so he has every other day to not be bloated. But I still get upset every time I see him like this.
Please note: he doesn’t ALWAYS look this bad, but let’s say every three feedings he does. Usually he’ll just be floating because he can’t stay down.
I feed him betta bug bites as staple and bloodworms once a week.
My local fish store said it’s probably just the betta. But I want to make sure there’s nothing else I can do.
Last photo is normal him.

I meant to add the tank details.
Parameters
12/2 Ph 7.6 Amonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 0
tank mates – amano shrimp, cherry barbs, and snails. 11 G Long 78 degrees Fluvial filter
Water changes – once a week to only clean poop on sand. Then top it off.
Had tank for 2 months. Had fish for 1 year.
Planted tank with rock and driftwood.
you could try to salt bath him, 15 minutes once a few days. it could reduce swelling. you need to make sure water temp is same in bath and tank and treat for chlorine and the right amount of fully dissolved aquarium salt for you bath. there is other stuff catappa leaves (in main tank) not to many try one to see the tannins at first… clean water every few days(maybe more a few times today clean water really good 50% ) need clean water… this would be an emergency to me… good luck
you could even start fasting him too, betta can go a week or more not eating
he could push through, looking again he def got some popeye going
its best you catch it early.. i would start treatment like now
