This is my third post regarding Pebbles. We got her about a few weeks ago. We unintentionally overfed her and made the water bad and her sick so I changed the water with conditioner and washed off the gravel of all the old food.
She hasn’t eaten in almost a week. Today is the worse she has been. Her scales look flared up and almost like she is bloated possibly. She isn’t swimming right all the time and isn’t presenting in the typical position and her fins aren’t always moving.
I am wondering what could be going on and I am going to assume it’s past the point of fixing. Please tell me if I’m wrong on this possibly.
I am getting her water test strips today which I will likely exchange for a liquid kit from API.
I have a 5 year old who is also very attached and really nervous about all of this.

I really appreciate that everyone has been so helpful and non judgmental because I feel terrible about this.
I did not have bad intentions and will ensure the water is safe for a tank startup and already have a liquid water test kit to test it before getting a new fish.
Is there any filters or heaters that could work better than what came with the kit? I got it second hand.
Very sad, never trust shop employees. For your next fish, please let the tank cycle for at least 4 weeks with live plants, dark substrate, maybe some roots. Ditch all the fake colorful plastic decoration as these could hurt your future fish or leak toxins. Bright colors are stressful to betta.
It’s easier to maintain a bigger tank as the water tolerates more waste and is easier to keep stable. Same with live plants, they provide enrichment, reduce stress and help filter the water.
10 gallon or bigger would be great.
