this might just be normal behavior + him responding to his reflection. i’m new to fish keeping myself and my betta has done this a few times. if possible try adding more plants/decorations for him to explore/mental stimulation. Also, love the samurai betta

There is nowhere for him to hide or rest. He’s probably strung out from that bright light and no safe spaces. I feel sorry for him

Looks like he’s stressed from the mirror effect (seeing his reflection). More plants that are taller on the walls would be good or if you have a pillow case (or any sort of covering) that you can drape over to hang over the sides that may help on impact. White or beige is best so a darker color doesn’t act like a mirror. Try to lower the lighting to less time until it’s rectified and he’s less stressed. My boy was the same way starting his second month with me and once I clipped the mirror effect he’s back to happy and exploring his home everyday. Good luck!

I recommend more hiding places/bushy plants or top-covering plants to block out some light. Bettas natural habitats are pretty dark so bright lights can cause them to spend most the time at a higher stress level, and if he’s catching glimpses of his reflection it’ll be worse ;(

yeah, like others have said, theres no good resting spots and that light is very bright. there should be spots for him to settle near the top of the water

Need more plants and I’d separate the tank mate. How big is your tank? Water temp?

Add a bunch of plants. Anacharis will quickly fill your tank and he will love them. Indian almond leaves with sticks can help create more hiding spots. I would cover some of the sides of the the tank too.

what are your water parameters and do you have a heater? your tank is also probably too bright and empty, he may be seeing his reflection in the glass
