I just installed the Easy Flow Sponge Filter by Aquarium Co-op for my betta tank, along with a check valve and a two-way plastic valve. For some reason, the flow seems really weak and uneven. I even tried a different air pump in case my new one was the issue.

I’m also wondering if I should add an air stone—could that be why the flow is so weak? Maybe it actually needs one? I’m not sure.

Anyone have any suggestions?

You’ll get more flow if you place the outlet at least 1/3 underwater.
The easy flow kit uses that collar that you plugged your airline into as an air stone. They do the same thing. Bubbles create the flow through your filter.

Fill your tank up to the output level. Your air pump won’t have to work so hard. An air stone will cause smaller bubbles and lessen the noise. You want surface agitation to oxygenate the water. Fine bubbles work as well as big bubbles do.

Maybe try laying it on its side with the tube bending 90 degrees to go vertical below the water line.
