I wanted to come back on here and those this sub for all the great advice and tips you gave to me. We under researched this when we got this little guy and ended up having to begin a fish in cycle because of my own lack of research. He seems to be doing great and I ended up getting some beneficial bacteria to kick start the process and keeping an eye on ammonia levels and other parameters. I’ve done a 20% water change 3 times to keep ammonia levels down. Any other tips.
He is also flaring his gills at his reflection. I read this can cause stress or they can hurt themselves, any tips on how to reduce the reflectivity of the tank walls?

To reduce the reflection, dimming the light could help but make sure your plants will be okay with less light.
I found adding other stimulations could help cause my Betta would do the same thing but when I added floating plants and new decor she stopped caring so much about her reflection.
there are slso aquarium vinyls you can put it on the back that might help.
