Just recently, I lost my entire livestock of guppies, leaving behind my ramshorn snails and two mysteries due to my landlord turning the heat off during thanksgiving break and causing a near freeze over. I keep getting excessive biofilm now and I am wondering if I should clean my sump out at this point.

Also secondary question, I am having snail leeches pop up in the tank, but never used to have an issue with that before. Where my guppies eating them.?

  1. You just had a tank crash. Clean out your system, treat it like a new tank. Recycle. All your problems should go away. Yes, clean your sump, add a heater in the sump for those emergencies. And I’d also invest in an auto top off to make sure the heater does not blow up or melt the glass. And the guppies were probably eating the snail leeches. An assassin snail or khuli loach would love to eat those guys too. Cories and bettas will as well.
