The audacity of these people. I for one hope this effort goes down in flames.

  2. What if we replaced “fly fishing only” regulations with requirements that anyone fishing practice catch and release with artifical lures only? Only single, barbless hooks allowed.

My problem isn’t with the guy using a spin rod who replaced the treble hooks on his panther martin with a barbless single hook. My issue is with the guy using scented Gulp on treble hooks that’s keeping six fish every time he goes out.

I feel like a lot of the “elitism” in our sport isn’t because we look down on anyone using different gear. It’s just that those people tend to be more ignorant and disproportionately harmful to riparian ecosystems, because spin fishing is by far the easiest way to start fishing. Anyone with $20 and a local walmart can pick up spin fishing. Guys who fly fish tend to be more experienced, with a better understanding of how to care for our shared natural resources – and that’s the part I care about, not what kind of rod you’re using.

  3. The waters are indeed open to everyone. The rules limit the methods that can be used. No gill gets, no dynamite, no night crawlers. No chlorox no spinners

It isn’t the state’s problem that some people are too stupid to use a fly roc

    >”They are paying for the license fees, they are paying their taxes, they support the states conservation efforts, but because they don’t have time to learn how to fly fish or the money to buy the equipment. They are not able to go fish in these pristine spots,” Spokesperson for the International Order of Theodore Roosevelt Jared Bornstein said.

Sounds like they’re trying to open up the waters to people who don’t want to go.

Guess I don’t get this. Does “fly-fishing only” mean you’ll be cited if you’re not carrying a rod? You can’t hike and enjoy these spots without fishing? And would Tenkara count? That’s cheap.
