I was checking on my betta and honestly it’s my first time owning caring for one, i might be paranoid but there’s a hole in his dorsal fin that im pretty sure is NOT supposed to be there, is this a sign of early fin rot or did he hurt himself and tore his fin? I would take more pictures but he wont stay still while flaring

Answering the mod questions, especially sharing your water parameters, will allow us to better help you!
It looks more like a torn fin than fin rot to me but I also havent had a betta in a while. Is there anything it could get caught on in the tank?
• Tank size: 10 gal
• Heater and filter? (yes/no): yes filter, no heater
• Tank temperature: unsure
• Parameters in numbers and how you got them. Key water parameters include the amount of ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, and pH.: honestly im unsure
• How long have you had the tank? How long have you had your fish?: i had the tank for about 5 years, and my fish for about a month maybe less
• How often are water changes? How much do you take out per change? What is your process?: once a week, maybe like a quarter of the water
• Any tankmates? If so, please list with how many of each: 2 ghost shrimp, one pleco catfish
• What do you feed and how much: betta pro shrimp patties, around 5 or more pellets once a day
• Decorations and plants in the tank: banana plant, 2 java moss balls, and a stem of a house plant
I know it seems bad that i dont have much of the equipment, im trying to buy things without my parents knowing, since they think that my betta is fine as is and wont take me to buy necessary equipment 💔
