I wanted to give my shrimpies some algae wafers so I took the lid off for maybe 10 minutes, if that, to break them into pieces and scatter across the tank. I do sort of chuck them into the tank so they sink where I want them to without turning my filter off.
The first photo is right when I took the lid off. He’s been protecting it all night and has a figure 8 routine and has been building it non stop all night. The second photo is after the ~10ish minutes of feeding. They were just slowing popping one by one so I quickly put the lid back on. The moment I did, it stopped.
I feel it’s safe to assume the humidity will affect their bubble nest? I haven’t read of anything like that but after observation, I feel it might be a contributing factor, at least.
My man thinks it’s the way I was disturbing the water, maybe, with the way I chuck them in there but it’s not enough water agitation for me to think that’s why. Anybody experienced anything similar with a removable tank and a boy that’s ready???

I know high humidity mimics their natural habitat so I’m guessing it helps prompt the want/need to build it so that’s also why I’m guessing it messed it up. Tannin leaves also help mimic their habitat but the ones I have in there are at the bottom, not the top for him to build under.
The tank is 10 gallons.
Parameters within reach but haven’t tested today.
Temp is ~78
Livestock: one male betta, 2 nerite snails, a bunch of bladder snails, a few assassin snails, a bunch of cherry shrimp and 3 amano shrimp.
Water is tap and conditioned.
