I inherited a 17gallon tank to my classroom in September with a large goldfish and common pleco. Thanks to the posts I've read on this sub, I've re-homed the pleco, started regular water testing, introduced sand substrate for the goldfish, reduced feeding from 2x per day to 1x, got ammonia levels down to 0, added pothos to the top, increased the filter capacity and finally convinced my principal to upgrade the size. We only got 30gallons but "Pimentinha" has swimming space! We moved the fish over and immediately he has been cruising and eating where before he would hide in a corner. Next semester my goal is to add some floating plants. Anyway thanks!

You’ve done a great job so far, but this fish will need a lot more space as soon as possible. Goldfish are pond fish really, rather than aquarium fish.
Way to go fam! Little buddy looks happier already.
Thank you for upgrading his home, he is lucky to have you 🙂 Yes, he will need a bigger tank, but dont’ rush the process, you will get there. I find myself adding a plant if I go past the pet shop and month by month my tank improves – you dont have to do it all in one go, you have already started by upgrading his tank, and in time you can upgrade it again, for now enjoy him/her 🙂
Maybe you can work towards finding a pond he can be rehomed to & get the school/classroom a betta fish instead! :0
This is what I am on this sub to see, nice work mate.
