This is my swords tail, I think she is pregnant but I wanted a second opinion, I originally feared it was dropsy but she has no lifting of her scales or no other signs besides being fat. I researched pregnancy in swords tails and she does have the black spot in her belly and the box belly as well as she’s still eating and doing her normal. I have no swords tail males in my tank and got her from the pet store 1 month ago maybe a little longer ? I just want a second opinion before I go by a fry net and such

It does look like she is carrying young. Swordtail platys can store sperm for a prolonged period of time (ie. she may have had some in storage before you got her), and she may have decided that now was the time to use some! This type of fish can also reproduce by parthenogenisis, but that’s more unusual. Looks like you are going to be a fish grandparent soon. 🐠
