I consider myself pretty new to the fishkeeping hobby since I got my first fish (that I properly took care of, RIP to my childhood betta) in August. Unfortunately, he was a gift and I didn't have a tank cycled at the time. Despite that, he remained pretty healthy until about a month ago and he passed. I also ended up with my mom's betta since she refused to take proper care of him (he had major fin rot).
Now, I have a 5g tank with her betta (unfortunately the gifted betta passed about a month ago, and a 20g with 7 cherry barbs and 2 nerite snails. I guess I'm doing something right, since last night I only had 6! I woke up and saw this little guy swimming around.
Yes, I know I need at least more plants, maybe more hardscape. I just got Christmas money, and that's exactly what I plan to use that for.
Also; any tips for getting rid of biofilm on driftwood would be greatly appreciated, I've just been gently washing it off in old tank water when I do water changes 😭

Snails and/or shrimp will clear out the wood biofilm fast. Personally I like Malaysian trumpet snails for anti glass/wood/rock algae, slower reproducing than ramshorns and they’ll burrow through your substrate which helps keep gas pockets from forming.
Elodea is easy to grow in my experience, I’ve run it in an unfertilized sand tank, just using fish waste for nutrients.
