I literally drove 2 hours to get it because they were going to flush her if not.
I bought the tank today and set it up before getting her since this was very last minute.
Previously she was in a .25 gallon tank, unsure on how they actually cared for her.
She’s been lethargic since I got her, rapid breathing and trouble swimming.
One gill is significantly larger, and seems inflamed. She can’t swim horizontally, and can barely swim up. Her body is permanently in that position. I did acclimate her properly but it seems it doesn’t matter what I did, she’s clearly unhealthy.
This isn’t my first rodeo with a betta but I haven’t seen these symptoms all at once.
Her scales aren’t flared and she’s not bloated, if anything she’s underweight.
I’m really just trying to see what I should do. If I should try to nurse her to health if possible or euthanize her. I’m leaning towards euthanasia because that seems the most humane.
If anyone has ANY insight on what to do that’d be great, thank you!

Increase tank oxygen with air stone if you aren’t already. Use seachem prime to bind any ammonia and promote slime coat?
flush her??🤬 wtf is wrong with people. so glad u saved her. anything is better than that. not sure from all the symptoms, but the swimming seems to be form swim bladder. do you have a heater in the tank? if not, you’ll need one. swim bladder is caused by over feeding and too cold of water. what size tank is she in now? get her some leafy plants and/or leaf rests/hammocks. she’ll be able to rest near the surface and not have to work as hard to get to the top. or u could take some water out the tank so it’s a little more shallow. did u condition the water atleast? get a water testing kit if u dont have one. almond leaves are good, they lower ur ph and water hardness can also be antibacterial. get her lots of real plants. hope she starts doing well! thank you for saving her and doing ur best. i’m not a pro tho, so please continue to do research. good luck!!
First lower that water level.to 3 inches they breathe air and it could be a number of things. Get the water to 81 degrees, get some Indian almond leaves, treat with kanaplex since most fish illnesses are negative gram bacteria. Boil water put a few Indian leaves in there and make a tea. Add to water once cooled. Put a leaf or something close to the surface so its easy to get a breath of Air. If bloated/scales lifting do epsom salt bath, recipes on google.
Good luck. Very nice of you to help him.
Treat her in a bare bottom hospital tank- I would do add aquarium salt to the tank (1 tablespoon per 3 gallons) and add catappa leaves. Keep the lights off in the tank and preferably the room she is in. Add a bubbler too if you have one.
I would not increase temp or even start strong antibiotics (Kanaplex) until tomorrow- see if the fish makes it overnight.
You want to make things easier for her, not shock her
I would try lowering the water so she doesn’t have to swim too far or hard, I would try for a few days before putting her down.
