My betta was looking/acting normal yesterday. Didn't greet me at feeding time today so I looked for him with no luck. Found this husk that appears to have a spine/ribs with shrimp taking turns picking at it. I guess I didn't realize how effective a clean up crew they are. I only had him for a couple years, but he was a chain pet store fish so no telling age or genetic health. Water parameters stable with no major water or temperature changes and no one else seems to be affected. As sad as I am about losing him, it is oddly fascinating to see the ecosystem at work, and thought the community might also be interested.
Rest in peace Abbadon. He used to hide every time I'd pull out the camera, so I dont even have any good pictures of him in all his glory.

Likely he died some other way and then they ate him. How many shrimp do you have? Hard to believe cherry shrimp could get it to the bones in one night.
Yeah, shrimp and snails will make short work of anything that reaches the bottom. I think it’s kind of a nice way to go out if you think about it. Fish lived a better life than most betta can hope for, and in the end his body recirculated into the ecosystem the way that millions of betta before him have too.
