This happened to me this past weekend.
Set the hook on a bass and the jighead hook snapped clean off. No idea if it was a solid fish that broke it or just bad luck, but not knowing is what gets me.
That one’s gonna stick with me for a while. 😔

  1. Worse yet is when this happens and you don’t notice, then proceed to keep fishing with the hookless jig, wondering why none of the hits you’re getting are hooking up. Ask me how I know lol

  2. Glass half full… It was a turtle.  He’s fine, and you didn’t have to risk a finger getting him loose.

Unfortunately, I’ve had three different Gamakatsu hooks break. Different types. I used to be pretty loyal to Gamakatsu. I still don’t know if their heat treating is an issue or I’m just unlucky as hell. No more Gamakatsu hooks for me. The ceramic scissors ROCK though

The only other hook I’ve ever broken was an eagle Claw I tried to heat and re-bend
