Hi all!
This morning my husband noticed a baby fish in our tank! This was very exciting, but we are very unprepared 🙁
When I removed it and placed it in a Tupperware, I noticed two other babies hiding around the bottom!
Before I do anything else, I wanted to hear some suggestions? My husband will try to locate a breeding box on route home, but in the meantime, how do we protect these babies?
I have included pictures of our tank and our first baby!!!
This tank was purchased one year ago and we have very slowly been adding fish and replacing fake plants with all live plants. That was a game changer for our friends, they are even more active and happy 😊
Anyways, any tips would be appreciated!

It looks like you have enough plants and ornaments for your fry to keep itself safe by just hiding. 🙂
Let nature take its course. It may survive long enough to grow too big for adult fish to consider as food.
Congratulations on the new arrivals. Finding fry is always a thrill, and it is a clear sign that your fish are healthy enough to breed. It is perfectly normal to feel unprepared, but you can absolutely handle this.
The biggest danger right now is not the water quality, but the adult fish, which are opportunistic eaters and will likely hunt the fry if they can see them. The most important step you can take immediately is to float the Tupperware container with the caught fry inside the main tank, clipping it to the edge if possible. This keeps the water temperature stable so the baby does not go into shock while you wait for the proper box.
For a free solution to save the other fry or house the one you caught, you can take a clean plastic water bottle, poke 20-30 small holes in the bottom half with a hot needle (so water flows but fry stay in), and cut off the top cone. Clip this “pod” to the side of your tank with a clothespin or binder clip. It works exactly like a store-bought breeder box for $0 and buys you plenty of time.
Hopes and dreams.
Keep feeding them as much as you can and hope they outgrow the other fishes mouths quickly
Maybe stick some frogbit in or more leafy plants for them to hide in. One of my fry liked to lay on the frogbit, she’s grown now
Hopefully not too late but while your husband is searching for a breeder box he has to look for fry food as well.
