Your tanks lack verticality.
I don’t mean buy taller tanks, I mean try some taller hardscaping.
In your African cichlid tank you could attempt to plant some vallisneria or hornwort perhaps, which are native to the lakes. It needs to be well rooted though or even fixed to some hardscape somehow.
