he flares when he sees his reflection I don’t know how often means something bad? Is he acting normal or just getting used to his surroundings still?

5 gallon tank, heater and filter, the temperature is 78, I checked the water yesterday and everything was good,I’ve had the tank and the fish for a few days,no tank mates,I feed 4 pellets twice a day,I have two live plants, a stone, and drift wood

It is a natural behavior, don’t worry. Since you are doing a fish in cycle, you will want to test daily until cycled.
With regard to plants, any epiphytes should be planted above the substrate, attached to a rock, driftwood etc… the rhizome needs to remain exposed.
