My friend’s mom recently passed and I was given her fish because I own tanks as well. Problem is, I’m a single-species, snails, shrimp kinda keeper so I’ve never had a community tank before. I’ve identified the species given and set up her 10g with her fish as well as the shrimp, snails, and bumblebee goby (see pic) from my tank. I’m combining the cycles so please ignore the filter media just chilling in the tank in pic 1 lol. I believe I have:
– 1 bumblebee goby (confirmed because I already had him)
– 3 corys of an unknown species (see pic 2)
– 2 otos
– 4 dwarf corys
– 10 neon tetras
– 3 rummynose tetras
– 7 ember tetras
– 2 rabbit snails (already owned)
– 6 nerites (already owned)
– 3 Amano shrimp (already owned)

I feel like the tank is very overstocked (especially with the 3 big corys) but my most pressing issue is that I’m not sure how to feed these inherited fish. I have their food (see pic 3) but I have no idea how much I need to feed, how often, who needs what, or how to make sure I’m feeding enough. Does anyone have some advice? Should I try to rehome the big corys?

  1. I use the aquarium coop magic small fish food and all my nano fish go wild! Even the shrimp and kuhlis love it because it settles on all the leaves and the substrate 🙂 maybe start with like half a scoop of that and see if everyone in the tank is willing to eat it? And probably one or two of the catfish pellets. All the foods in your pic are pretty high quality so you’re really not gonna go wrong

I personally feed my tank every 3 days, in a small tank you wanna be very careful about over feeding, you can check water quality to make sure it’s not causing issues.
