Hi, I’m new to aquarium life and just needed some advice! I just finished cycling a 20 gal long with slightly high ph (will reduce this by adding tannins) and I am wondering if my plan for adding fish is overstocked?

Here’s what I’m thinking:
-1 dwarf gourami or honey gourami
-6 Khuli loaches (I love these guys)
-3 Mollies
-shrimp (amount undecided, probably Amano shrimp.)
-possibly snails, not to sure what species.

I also wanted to add some neon tetras because their colors are gorgeous, but I’m scared!

I’m wondering if I could get some advice on how to alter this if needed. My tank is lightly planted right now but I’m planning to add more over time.

  1. Not overstocked. You could add neons but tbh i would go for a different species since neons tend to die very easily. If you want something similar to neons, Caridnal tetras are a good choice. Way better colors and a bit bigger. But check their parameters to see if theyll handle the ph

I don’t have any knowledge on being over stocked. I would assume it’s fine if you have good filtration. But I will say by experience with Mollies. They are cool fish, but they are also crazy haha we had them with a beta, some danios and Cory cats. And they just ate so fast and gorge themselves…. If I had know it was going to be like that I probably wouldn’t have got them because it drives me nuts. But they are cool!

Make sure the mollies are males, as they are livebearers and it’s pretty much a given that females will be pregnant when you get them.
