Hi! I am a beginner in fishing. My boyfriend gifted me for christmas a baitcaster combo. It’s a GX2 Ugly Stik with an Abu Garcia Vengeance reel.
I wasn’t sure what line to put, so I put 15 lb braided line. I looked up some videos on how to set up the tension, the breaks, etc.
In the videos, they say to bring the tension all the way up, same as the breaks. Then, push the button of the baitcaster and check to see if the lure stops moving. The thing is, my lure keeps moving even if the tension is all the way up.
How can I fix this? Is there any weight I have to use for it not to fall down or something? Should I take the line off and check? Let me know please.
ps. pic of my first backlash lol

Before you cast out, put the tension all the way tight then slowly loosen it until the jig / bait / etc hits the ground and you don’t birds nest as it hits the ground. It’s ok that it happens but that’s how you learn. I had 3 rough fishing sessions trying to learn how to use a bait caster.
If your tension is all the way tight and the spool is still spinning to freely, the reel might be missing the spacers/pads that go under the cap or there is an o-ring keeping the cap from being completely screwed on. You can take it off to check but so you know, it seems other people seem to have issues getting the tension caps back on this specific reel too
