I love my horned nerites snails they are so underrated! But I thought they could only reproduce under specific conditions. Is this mating behavior? Or are they just hanging out?
It's a freshwater tank with neocardinia shrimp in it!

Need Brackish water for eggs.
This is snex, but they won’t be able to successfully raise offspring in freshwater.
Get them a room.
they mate and lay eggs in any water but the eggs only hatch in the right salinity. if they do hatch the veligers cannot be kept alive in captivity outside of lab conditions.
higher temps (around 75f+) cause them to go into turbo reproduction mode, which is extremely exhausting for them long term. if you are worried about them not catching a break, try turning the temp down 2 degrees or so.
Most likely yes, unless they’re cleaning up the algae off the shells. The one on the top is the male. They will lay unsightly eggs everywhere which are hard to remove. Lucky, the snails won’t hatch in FW. The only way to prevent them from laying eggs is to separate males and females, although fertilized females can carry the sperm (and lay eggs) for a long time.
