I only noticed them on the sponge today, didn’t see anything yesterday. Can they appear overnight that quickly?
Luckily my goldfish fry are big enough not to be eaten (I think)

They do appear to be. They can populate very quickly especially in fry tanks where there’s a lot of feeding going on. Personally I like to treat for them just because they will end up eating fry and it’s hard to get rid of all of them without using something like fenbendazole (panacur c).
