Kind of freaking out rn but to summarize I just noticed these cracks on my 40 gallon tank that house 16 fish (1 angel, 6 cories, 9 serpae tetras) and one mystery snail. I understand the urgency to get a new tank but I’m not sure how I should do it. I understand the ammonia cycle is important but can these cracks last that? I thought if getting a 20 gallon just to house them for awhile and buy another 40 gallon. Any help is truly appreciated🙏🏽. This is also a relatively new tank that I purchase April of last year

  1. Not sure about the crack, but just letting you know that if you do need to replace it immediately you won’t need to cycle a new tank. Use your current filter, gravel if you can, and decorations in the new tank. Your filter holds most of your nitrifying bacteria and there’ll be some in the gravel and on the driftwood so as long as you don’t scrub everything because you want it clean before putting it in the new tank, you should be okay. In an ideal situation it’s best to wait a few days after putting a seeded filter into a tank but your situation isn’t ideal, so you’ll have to make do and it should be okay. Might be a good idea to rinse the gravel a little bit, but just in dirty tank water, in case there’s any nasty stuff stuck in there you don’t want to be stirring it up and moving it into the new tank. Good luck!
