Im finally setting up my first ever actual planted tank with a 20 gal tall. My plan for my scape was to have the right side of the aquarium having some Val rechina up to the top to give a “jungle” look kinda like the pictures I’ve seen online. However I heard that it grows super unmanageable really quick especially in smaller aquariums. I really want some tall thin plants that reach the surface of the aquarium but am afraid Val might be too much. Are there any good alternatives or am I good?

Umbrella hairgrass or giant hairgrass can work.
Vals will grow 4+ feel if you let them. Not hard to control though, you just trim them. They shoot off new plants if you cut them down really far, then let it fill in and grow long. Also, use root tabs. I like sword plants and cryptocorynes a lot more for background plants, which will fill the back of a small tank nicely, but they don’t compare to vals.
Cryptocoryne spiralis
Cut and keep it short lol mine went across the other side of my 75 gallon have it growing from both side ☠️
