I feel like I’m probably going to get crucified for even asking this, but I’m curious.

I’m an intermediate fly fisherman in Australia fishing mostly decent sized flies, and I keep seeing heaps of fly fishing gear on Temu for ridiculously cheap prices.

Obviously I’m not looking at rods or reels, just wondering if any of the accessories or bits of gear are actually decent enough to use.

Just curious if anyone has found any hidden gems, or if it’s all basically junk.

Anyone tried any of it? 🎣

Their rubber meshed landing nets are decent enough. The fly tying materials are mostly good. I got a fish pond zinger cheap. If you’re careful you’ll get pretty much the same stuff for quarter the price.

  2. This isn’t all explicitly fly fishing stuff but I have found Temu to be good for metal jigs, smaller fishing related bags and boxes (for organization in my bigger containers), solid rings, and light duty tools like hemostats, tying tools and pliers.

I bought a fly reel purely as an experiment and it seems fine for lighter freshwater use where the drag is less important. It’s currently serving as a backup with an old line on it. For like $40 cad I am happy with the purchase.

I have also bought rechargeable flashlights (to shove in a bag as a backup) that seem to be working fine after a couple months too.

If you are looking for something with a little more quality try AliExpress/alibaba.
I have a spinning reel available on there that has been bounced around in a rod holder for hundreds of nautical miles, thousands of casts and held firm with small GTs, little tunas, pacific salmon, etc.

I had one client show me the multiple small arapaima he’d caught on his alibaba 12wt fly rod.

To summarize, cheap Chinese stuff has improved a lot. Take a look at the reviews before you buy and you can make informed decisions.
