so my reel is a shimano sedona 2500 hg (i dont really want to hear hate about the reel choice right now) and I took it apart to grease it. When i put it back together it was like grinding. Pretty sure its something to do with pinion gear alignment but im not sure. chat gpt claims its the yoke spring but I dont even know what that looks like or if it is still in the reel. Please help if you know anything about spinning reels.

  1. I had a similar experience while servicing an Okuma Revenger reel. I completely disassembled it, cleaned it, and regreased it. When I was testing it to make sure it spun smoothly, it sounded awful and vibrated a lot. I took it apart and put it back together about three times with no success, which was quite frustrating considering how few parts it has. The thing is, I reassembled it one last time, thinking it was basically junk. It turns out that if the entire mechanism isn’t fully put together, the reel isn’t properly balanced, and that’s what was causing the noise and vibration. I checked it later for any additional wear, and it seems to be fine. Maybe your problem is something similar.

When it was grindy, did you have the rotor off? It won’t run right if it’s not fully reassembled.

Spinning reels don’t have a yoke and therefore no yoke springs. It’s a baitcaster thing. However, I would need a description of the grinding to understand where it might come from. Is it constant?
