I was at my local fish store for supplies. They just got in a bunch of betta fish and this is how they came. I really hope they at least put them in a cup. But it didn’t look like they were doing that. There wasn’t cups or anyone around doing the transfer. This is so sad.

So I’ve actually gotten close with the ‘fish person’ of a PetSmart, and I’ve seen this! The blue liquid is to I think blind? them to relieve them of stress, and yes! they do get moved into cups soon after with fresh water 😀

it is still AWFUL how they’re treated tho </3

This is regrettably one of the better solutions for overseas fish transport. The water in the bags is medicated and the fish are not able to attack each other in transit or slosh against hard surfaces. Its unfortunate they weren’t unbagged yet but you have to be ready because as soon as they’re open, the oxygen introduced makes the ammonia in the bag water spike. You don’t just want them open and sitting in there.

  3. That’s unfourtunately how they’re shipped sometimes. Some wholesalers will put them in actual 4″x6″ bags, but most send them in like a tablespoon of water and a dime bag. The store should definitely be moving them to aquariums(Ideally) or some other permanent housing.

That looks like the standard way to ship them. Not sure how you think fish are transported.

Mostlikely everyone was busy. But yes they do come in like that through imports that how I recieved my guppies through vietnam each one in a lil tiny bag lol. Its a pain actually opening them all up individually
