I just got my first baitcaster and I’m wondering if the line is supposed to rest in that little notch thing?
It’s a Kast King Spartacus 2

Not a ring so no. Looks like a hook holder to me. Where you can hook your bait so it’s stored while you walk or don’t use the fishing rod.

No, that looks to be your hook-keeper. You have it rigged perfectly already 👍

No, the little notch is to attach your hook/lure to when you’re not fishing so that way your line is not swinging all over the place. I use it every time I’m moving around the lake.

I know this is fishing for beginners but really? How would that even make sense?

That’s your hook thingy for when it’s not in use. Keep the brakes and resistance high and have patience.
