I recently got this fish from petsmart (I know but I couldn’t leave him after he looked at me) I haven’t had a betta in a long time. I have a 6 gallon cube tank with fluval bio stratum, sponge filter, heater, driftwood, aquatic plants, plant cuttings in the back of the tank, some broken terra cotta pieces for shrimp, and a cave for the betta. I’ve been cycling my tank but I just wanted to make sure my new little guy was healthy as the conditions he was in were obviously not ideal. I’m planning to let him recover and hopefully fill out more. I just wanted to make sure his fins look okay since they look torn and what basics to keep on hand to treat things like ich and fin rot. Thank you! All suggestions appreciated.

He looks great I would be more worried about sharp edges on the broken terra cotta pot tearing fins, you’ll want to make sure to dremmel or sand down any sharp spots.

I can’t tell if his top fins just look like that, or if it’s fin rot. His tail fins look healthy but the top one seems a little odd. I’m a beginner so I’m not too sure.

IME you can use melafix to help healing the torn fins! as long as he has plenty of resting spots at the top of the tank i think he should be okay! another commenter also mentioned the decor and i agree! you want to make sure that nothing in there is sharp to prevent further tearing!
