Just a late night thought…hypothetically, but can you and your betta fish swim together in a pond or lake?
I love my betta fish and I believe he recognizes me whenever I hang out with him. He gets very excited and stays near the side of the tank I am closest too.
This gave me an idea that if me and my betta were to be put in a pond or lake, will he be swimming by me or swim away. I like to believe he would stay near me.

I’d be scared sum would eat him!!!!beautiful beta, BTW!!!
Yeah, he’d lowkey get eaten or bolt. Fish can recognize people but physically lack the part of the brain responsible for true emotions. He gets happy when he sees you because he associates you with food and safety.
Also, humans create much stronger currents when swimming than a betta would, so you’d likely accidentally create strong current that scare him away if you did try.
Also diseases. You don’t want to put your betta in a situation where it can come into contact with parasites found in the wild.

just the movement your body would make in the water would send the poor thing flying 😭
I think if that one guy can make an eel pit in his basement, you could figure out a way to swim with your betta relatively safely. Maybe it’s more of a hamster ball situation idk 😆
