Went and fished this for about 3 hrs today and got nothing. I got waders for Christmas and figured I'd hit this spot up. How would you all recommend I fish it in the future? I was mainly going for trout with Panther Martins and a Rapala Minnow, but I'd cast and catch just about anything lol. This is the Pomperaug River in CT if anyone local has any tips. Thanks!

Did you stay and fish that same pool for the whole 3 hours? I rarely spend more than 20 minutes at a pool when wading my local rivers unless the fish are actively feeding, if not I just keep wading up or down till I find em. Hard to get a good sense of the depth there, but if spoons and spinners aren’t working I’d suggest float fishing with a small 2-3.5” steelhead worm or an 8-12mm soft bead.
Trout will be along the current lines, and in pockets in rapid areas, just as any stream.. its possible it’s also been hit very hard by locals and just not much there or they are spooked.
Sounds like you’re doing it right. You’re fan casting and trying different retrieve speeds right? Some days the fish will prefer a slow moving bait, other days you’ll get more reaction strikes reeling fast, and some days the fish just don’t want to bite anything. Sometimes a fly with a casting bubble or a worm on a circle hook drifting the bottom can get bites when you otherwise wouldn’t.
